Ashley Horner Finds Passion in Running and Philanthropy

Before she had more than half a million Instagram followers, Ashley Horner was a shy kid and confidence was something that she had to cultivate.

“It happened through doing things that scared me, and trusting my heart. Once I got to the other side, my confidence soared,” she says.

Those things that scare her range from starting successful businesses to challenging herself to physical feats most of us wouldn’t dream about, like running 230 miles around the border of Haiti in three days or running 280 miles from Virginia Beach, Va., to Wilmington, North Carolina.

That’s because Horner links each physical conquest to a philanthropic passion, like her Unbroken Foundation which benefits battered women and children shelters throughout the country, or a Haitian orphanage which she raised $90,000 for during her run.

“Fitness is a tool that is empowering on so many levels,” she says. “Running is the easiest thing—you just put on your shoes and get out the door. The positivity you get back is so rewarding, and it empowers you to conquer the world.”
